Terms of Use
Version 2026-10-v0.4 · Effective date: October 30, 2026 · Last updated: October 27, 2026
Operator: [Legal operator to be confirmed], doing business as TaskTeens. Effective: October 30, 2026. Contact: hello@taskteens.com.
1. Free job board, direct hiring
TaskTeens provides listings, search, applications, guardian permissions and communication tools. Households, local businesses and other eligible adult posters publish opportunities; teens choose whether to apply; posters choose whom to hire directly. TaskTeens is not a party to the resulting employment, service or other work arrangement and does not accept work on anyone's behalf.
Under this operating model, TaskTeens does not act as a staffing agency, employer, dispatcher, payroll service or work supervisor. It does not assign or supply workers, promise staffing, negotiate engagements, manage shifts, direct how work is done, evaluate job performance for employment purposes, or discipline teens for productivity, declining work, availability or not accepting an opportunity. A poster's hiring or termination decision belongs to the poster, subject to law.
TaskTeens does not set or negotiate pay beyond the minimum listing floor in section 6. That floor is the only platform-set pay threshold; users agree directly on pay that meets or exceeds it. TaskTeens does not collect or hold job payments, process payroll, withhold taxes, issue payroll documents, pay wages, collect commissions or guarantee payment. Listings and applications are free to both sides. Teens will never be charged a fee or commission to access, apply for or obtain work through TaskTeens, including through a guardian or intermediary. Any future paid feature for adults requires separate review and advance disclosure and must keep that commitment.
TaskTeens may moderate listings and platform access for safety, fraud, harassment, unlawful content, wage-policy violations or other platform rules. That is platform moderation, not management of the poster's workforce. We do not promise that every unlawful listing or unsafe person will be detected.
These statements describe required conduct, not a categorical legal exemption. Any statutory employer, joint-employer, agency, privacy, safeguarding or other duty that legally applies to TaskTeens remains its responsibility. No provision requires users to waive such a duty.
2. Eligibility and acceptance
Teen accounts are for ages 14–17 with an approved, linked parent or legal guardian. Posters and guardians must be at least 18; business representatives must have authority to act for the business. Under-14 accounts and adults posing as teens are prohibited. We check age and authority proportionately; never send identity documents through ordinary chat.
Adults accept these readable, downloadable Terms with an unchecked checkbox and an affirmative button. Teens separately acknowledge the participation rules. We keep the document version, user role, time and acceptance record. Parent consent is not a blanket waiver or an assurance that a minor's contract is enforceable. Disaffirmance and all nonwaivable rights remain intact. At 18, guardian access ends unless the adult user newly authorizes it, and new teen-program applications stop pending a separately reviewed transition.
3. Accounts and guardian-visible messaging
Use separate teen, guardian and poster accounts. A guardian's view is not permission to act as the teen. Job messages between adults and teens are visible to the linked guardian by default; this is shown before messaging, and neither the poster nor the teen can switch it off for ordinary job chat. Do not ask for secrecy, disappearing messages, private social accounts, sexual content or hidden changes to a job.
Keep application and job-detail communication on the platform so the guardian record stays complete. Emergency services, safe guardian contact, legal advisers, government agencies and legally necessary employment communications remain available. No rule restricts complaints or a poster's duty to give legally required employment notices. Private safeguarding reports use a restricted route rather than the shared job chat, especially if a linked guardian is involved.
Protect your login and report compromise to hello@taskteens.com. TaskTeens does not shift responsibility for its own security failures to users.
4. Applications, selection and guardian approval
An application is not a job assignment, an employment offer from TaskTeens or a guarantee of work. Anyone may decline. "Selected" means only that the poster wants to hire the teen; TaskTeens does not choose the worker. "Confirmed by parent" records family permission, not legal clearance or TaskTeens' endorsement.
Before a job is confirmed, the poster and teen must agree on the same duties, tools, location, schedule, pay, supervisor, adults present and disclosed risks; the guardian must approve that specific job; and the poster is responsible for any required work permit or a supported exemption. TaskTeens does not issue work permits.
Changes to these material terms require a new version and renewed guardian approval, which TaskTeens asks for automatically when a listing changes. During the pilot a parent or guardian goes with the teen to the first meeting with each poster. A teen can leave unsafe work or refuse an added duty without a platform penalty. Earned pay remains due.
5. Poster duties and classification
The poster hires the teen directly and is responsible for determining the correct classification and meeting the duties that apply: work permits, lawful duties and hours, wages and overtime, breaks, paid sick leave, reimbursement, records, wage statements, payroll and taxes, workers' compensation, a safe workplace, training and supervision. A worker is not an independent contractor simply because a job is short, paid in cash or found online. A retail cashier or restaurant employee is not turned into a contractor by a checkbox.
TaskTeens does not rely on Labor Code section 2777 as a blanket referral-agency safe harbor, and free service is not a universal exemption from job-listing or childcare law. Those laws continue to govern our activities and the hiring relationship.
TaskTeens is not responsible for getting work permits, running payroll, withholding taxes, providing workers' compensation, or meeting any other employer duty for a poster. A required school-issued Permit to Employ and Work must be obtained before work starts and kept by the employer. Any exemption must have a real factual and legal basis, not just a label such as "babysitting" or "self-employed". Irregular odd jobs at a private home can differ from regular domestic employment; reassess recurring work and changed duties. Guardian approval cannot waive a permit requirement.
6. Pay and nonpayment
Every paid listing must offer at least the minimum wage that applies where the work happens: the city's local minimum wage, or California's statewide minimum where the city has none. As of October 27, 2026 that is $19.61 an hour in Berkeley, $18.82 in El Cerrito and $16.90 in Albany. If a higher federal, state, local, industry-specific or other legal rate applies, that rate controls. Posters set their rate at or above the floor; TaskTeens does not negotiate it. TaskTeens updates these rates when they change, and the site checks each listing against the rate for its city and date.
A flat-price job must state its expected time and must work out to at least the floor for each hour; if the job takes longer, the poster pays the difference directly. Tips, gifts, "exposure", expenses and promised future work do not replace pay. Overtime, required premiums, paid waiting or training time, reimbursements and other entitlements are additional where they apply. No unpaid trials, unlawful deductions, or withholding wages over a damage allegation.
The parties agree the payment method and timing directly. For a one-time paid job, payment is due when the job ends unless the law requires it sooner. TaskTeens offers no escrow, platform payout, collection service or payment guarantee. A poster must pay earned wages even if its account or listing is removed.
Report nonpayment with the nonpayment form or at hello@taskteens.com. Include the job, agreed terms, dates, hours, amount received and amount disputed; never send bank logins. TaskTeens keeps relevant records, acknowledges reports, reviews the poster's platform access and shares available copies and agency links. It does not decide the debt, promise recovery or require a release to report. You may go straight to the California Labor Commissioner, a local enforcement agency, a lawyer or a court without waiting for us. No retaliation for a good-faith wage complaint.
7. Safety, supervision and insurance
Posters control and supervise their own workplace and must disclose material hazards, equipment, animals, transportation and the adults present. For indoor work an adult must be home (or, at a business, a supervisor on site) the whole time. Childcare support is only for children 5 and older with the child's parent or guardian home the whole time; we suggest, but do not require, a short written agreement signed by the poster, the teen and the teen's parent. Posters must provide required instruction, protections and insurance. Teens and guardians review the job and plan safe travel and check-ins. These responsibilities do not excuse anyone's own negligence or statutory duties.
Hiring for a household can create workers' compensation obligations; short or informal work is not automatically exempt. Ask an insurer to confirm coverage in writing — homeowners insurance may or may not cover paid work. California law provides enhanced compensation in specified cases of unlawful employment of minors; the statute's actual conditions control.
Platform coverage disclosure: TaskTeens carries no platform insurance covering participant injuries, abuse, property damage, nonpayment or work arrangements. TaskTeens provides no wage guarantee or bond and no workers' compensation policy for posters' hires. Any independently imposed legal duty remains unaffected.
TaskTeens is not an emergency service or a continuous monitoring service. In immediate danger, call 911 and move to safety. A platform report does not send responders.
8. Other people's content and our own conduct
Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act may protect against certain claims that treat TaskTeens as the publisher or speaker of someone else's content. Whether it applies depends on the claim and the law; no promise of immunity from suit is made, and our own legal duties remain. Providing moderation or guardian tools does not by itself mean TaskTeens supervises work, and does not remove any defense that would otherwise apply.
9. Content, moderation and access
You keep ownership of your lawful content and give TaskTeens only the limited permission needed to host it, show it to authorized recipients, moderate it, keep evidence and comply with law. We get no license to sell teen likenesses or to train general-purpose AI on private data. No scraping, contact harvesting, malware, impersonation, discrimination, threats, sexual exploitation, or disclosing other people's private information.
TaskTeens may hide listings or restrict accounts for documented platform violations, with human review and an appeal under the Verification, Reporting, Nonpayment and Appeals Policy. A complaint about work quality alone is not grounds to discipline a teen. Safety and harassment allegations are reviewed on their own facts. No acceptance quotas, productivity targets, availability penalties, exclusivity or employer-style performance scores.
10. Legal rights and responsibility
No mandatory arbitration, class-action waiver, jury waiver, release of unknown claims, shortened limitations period or mandatory confidential complaint process applies. Informal support is optional and never delays agency, court or emergency relief. California law applies where lawful, without displacing federal law or mandatory protections; lawful jurisdiction and venue control.
No clause releases or caps a minor's claims, bodily injury, death, abuse, earned wages, statutory wage remedies, workers' compensation rights, or nonwaivable privacy, security or consumer rights. No disclaimer covers fraud, gross negligence, willful misconduct, unlawful conduct, or responsibility that Civil Code section 1668 prevents disclaiming. A guardian gives no automatic indemnity for a teen, and teens give no indemnity. The separately accepted Adult Job Poster Risk Allocation Agreement may limit that poster's own eligible economic-loss claims and requires defense and indemnity for covered claims the poster causes. It does not limit protected claims or apply to a guardian just because they are a guardian. No general participant injury waiver is imposed.
TaskTeens does not guarantee a job, complete screening, safety, payment or uninterrupted availability. Those limits do not take back express commitments or legally required reasonable care. Material changes require advance notice and new acceptance or consent where required. Closing an account does not erase wages, claims or justified evidence holds.
11. Other documents and changes
The Community Standards and Youth Work Policy and the role-specific agreements you accept add to these Terms. The Privacy Notice explains data practices; accepting these Terms does not supply consent for optional uses. A specific work arrangement is between the poster and the teen; TaskTeens is not a party just because it stores the record.
Material changes apply going forward after notice and, where required, your affirmative acceptance — TaskTeens asks you to accept updated documents the next time you sign in. New optional uses require separate consent where the law requires it. No pre-checked box, silence or unrelated click authorizes tracking, recordings, advertising use or a new release. We keep the version you accepted, and you can save a copy of any document from its page.
12. Website ownership
TaskTeens owns or licenses its own site software, branding and original content; user content is covered by the limited permission above. No right to use another person's trademark, likeness, private information or copyrighted work is implied. Links to outside services are not a promise of their accuracy or safety. Security reports and content-removal requests can be sent as described in the Website Notices. These Terms do not restrict lawful accessibility tools or legally protected criticism.
13. Legal notices
Send ordinary notices to hello@taskteens.com and legal or privacy notices to hello@taskteens.com and [Business mailing address to be confirmed]. This contact information does not waive formal service-of-process rules. Not enforcing a provision once does not waive it for the future. If a provision cannot lawfully apply, the other independent provisions may continue; no severability rule creates a new waiver for a minor or enlarges a release. All documents remain subject to mandatory rights.
