Parent and Teen Quick Guide
Version 2026-10-v0.4 · Effective date: October 30, 2026 · Last updated: October 27, 2026
Read this first. This guide summarizes the full rules without replacing them or waiving your rights.
Who hires and pays?
You choose where to apply. The poster — a household or a local business — selects and hires you directly, supervises the work, and pays you. TaskTeens is a free job board. It does not assign workers, run payroll, get work permits, or guarantee work or payment. Teens never pay an access, application or placement fee.
What work is allowed during the pilot?
Light yard work and watering, moving light bins, walking one calm dog, tutoring, household help and technology help (with an adult home), childcare support for children 5 and older while the child's parent is home, and restaurant or retail work at a local business with a supervisor on site. Your actual duties, age, hours, tools and work permit decide whether a particular job is allowed. A guardian's approval cannot make prohibited work lawful.
What pay is required?
Every listing pays at least the minimum wage where the job happens — the city's minimum wage, or California's minimum where the city has none (as of October 27, 2026: Berkeley $19.61, El Cerrito $18.82, Albany $16.90 an hour). Posters propose the rate and agree it directly with you. Any other pay the law requires is still owed.
Who sees chat?
Your linked guardian can read job messages between you and the poster. Nobody should ask you for secrecy or hidden messages. Private safety reports have their own restricted route.
When do I get the address?
Listings show only the city and an approximate area. The exact address is shown to you and your guardian only after your guardian approves that specific job. Material changes need a new approval.
Is there insurance?
TaskTeens carries no platform insurance covering participant injuries, abuse, property damage, nonpayment or work arrangements, and it guarantees neither safety nor payment. Posters must meet their own legal employer and insurance duties. Badges describe limited checks only — they are not a safety or criminal-history clearance.
How do I report a problem?
Use Report, Get help or the nonpayment form in your account, or email hello@taskteens.com. Save job, hours and payment records. You can contact authorities without waiting for TaskTeens. Good-faith reports and declining work bring no platform penalty.
Immediate danger?
Call 911 and move to safety. TaskTeens is not an emergency dispatcher or a 24/7 monitor. You can stop unsafe work, and pay you've earned is still owed. No teen injury or wage waiver, and no arbitration or class-action waiver, applies to anyone.
Adult posters
The separate Adult Job Poster Risk Allocation Agreement sets a $100 cap on eligible economic-loss claims and a duty to defend and indemnify TaskTeens for covered claims the poster causes. Protected claims are excluded.
