TaskTeens is a small pilot connecting teens ages 14–17 in Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito with neighborhood households and local businesses — yard work, dog walking, tutoring, household and tech help, childcare support with the parent home, and café or shop shifts. Paid at least the city's minimum wage, a parent approves every job, and families stay in the loop.

Private by default

Who can use TaskTeens?
During the pilot, teens ages 14–17 in Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito can create an account with a linked parent or guardian. Households and local businesses in those cities can post jobs. Other cities and other age groups aren't part of the pilot.
Does it cost anything?
Teens never pay to create an account or apply. This early version of TaskTeens has no payments or fees built in; any future employer pricing would be announced before it takes effect.
Does TaskTeens run background checks on employers?
No. TaskTeens does not run background checks. Employer profiles show separate indicators — email confirmed, phone confirmed, address reviewed and manually reviewed — so you can see exactly which steps were completed. None of these is a background check or a guarantee. A parent or guardian approves every job before it is confirmed, and you should always follow our safety guidelines.
Do I need a work permit?
It depends on your age, the kind of work and who is hiring. TaskTeens doesn't decide that for you. Ask your school's work-permit office or check the California Department of Industrial Relations. The application form asks for your status so employers know where things stand.
What personal information do employers see?
Only what you put in an application for their job: your name, age range, city, the contact email and phone you choose, and your answers. Your home address, school schedule and profile are never shown publicly.
How do employers get my application?
Automatically. When you press Submit, your application goes straight to that employer's dashboard and they get an email. You'll get a confirmation and a notification every time they update your status.
What if something feels wrong?
Stop, leave if you are somewhere unsafe, and tell a trusted adult. Use the Report button on any listing or the Report a Concern page. In an emergency, call 911.
