Why Your Leaves Need to be Raked This Fall
One common misconception many homeowners hold is that leaving your leaves on your yard provides "insulation" over the winter, and will keep your yard healthy and green come Spring. Unfortunately, this could not be further from the truth. Unless your total leaf fall accounts for less than 10% of your yard space, the reality is that sitting leaves on your yard will starve your lawn of oxygen, and contribute to brown patches in your grass come Spring.
Ideally, you should aim to have your leaves raked 2-3 times in Autumn, so as not to let them pile up. This will not only ensure the health of your yard, it will save you time/money when the time comes to rake. Another option is to "mulch" your leaves, by running through them with a lawn mower. This will not only clear your leaves, but will also act as a fertilizer. For this, we recommend waiting for a day where your leaves are dry, otherwise you may bog down your lawn mower.
